Based on science and practical leadership

The Priming (Heads Up) Ladder™

The Priming (Heads Up) Ladder™ helps you gradually introduce an idea. Instead of delivering one big announcement, and surprising people, which can lead to defensiveness. You release information in five increments.

You can do this in one conversation or across a series of discussions or meetings.

Most communicators start at rung 5. Great primers start at rung 1.

This is a compassionate way to give people time to digest, and therefore become more receptive. This is based on conceptual and semantic priming which are proven scientific techniques.

Saad has developed a ground breaking practical framework that can be applied in any sensitive, feedback or conflict situation.

Stefanie was launching a completely new VIP Account Management Model looking after hundreds of customers. As a relatively new leader in the business, and being a Direct communicator, Stefanie knew she had to announce this news carefully. Everyone would be defensive. She put herself in the shoes of her team. She started sharing initial ideas/seeds, during 121 conversations. Critically, she did this early while ideas were still forming in her head, before her VP boss even approved the VIP model. This allowed Stefanie to show she was still "figuring" it out and her team warmed to her. She successfully primed and launched the VIP model. By the time it was, the team had already digested and expected it. The new VIP model is now in full swing, growing revenue, and making the team more happy with the value they create for the business.

Shoira was working on a business wide project to prepare the two parts of the workforce for a shift in their roles in Ad Operations and Customer Success. She had to both announce this change to several stakeholders and manage her own communicatiin style - getting too excited and oversharing! She built a plan in just 3 conversations, what to show and what to hide (because it was kinder). She no longer dropped the information bomb and a while suite of training to prepare people for their new roles. She treated even training catalogue as "sensitive news", which reframed how she introduced it - as smaller live discussions. She successfully primed key senior stakeholders and people on the ground.

When a serious incident takes place in the community including death, the police are severely criticised. Mark engages with a community group who hold the police to account. That group had become dysfunctional yet Mark knew he couldn't drop that information bomb. As a senior police officer, Mark knows how to command the room. Yet as a Primer he knows how to give air, meet people where they and using the Priming Heads Up Ladder gradually works his way during an online meeting where the group self concluded that the group was dysfunctional. They agreed to reset the membership with new people.
